You Choose Your Dreams

About 9 weeks ago I had an experience I won’t forget in a good while. It has been brewing over in my mind since the event so I thought I would share some things.

Being part of the Real Movement Community inspires. A community filled with people living a ‘real’ life, not afraid to chase what is important to them and make the world a better place. There are lots of examples of this that happen every day in our world, unfortunately they are often masked by the negativity of the mainstream media. Being a big time Sports Fan and Rock n Roll lover, I see examples of leadership, fun and positive spirit every day. People doing what they love to do and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps. In many cases athletes and musicians share many great messages and don’t mind if you follow in their footsteps or instead chase your dreams in whatever field you desire. The key is to live your dream.

A groups of guys 12 years ago decided to form a band. Good mates and good fun with varying degrees of musical ability. From a small town, in a small musical market, in a genre that hadn’t established itself in this country. No money, no plan – just the desire to have fun and chase their dreams. Sleeping in paddocks and slumming their way around the country they worked their way towards world domination in their genre. No chance many thought they could be where they are at this point in time. We are told to stop dreaming when we are at school. Told you can’t be this or can’t be that. Who says so? You become what you think about. For these lads, they thought about being musicians and didn’t let the obstacles or the naysayers stand in their way.

Despite worldwide fame, hundreds of thousands of fans and surely now enough $ to live the life they want to – they have stayed true to their values. They love their home town, and appreciate it even more after every trip. They appreciate their friends, fans and respect and promote other bands chasing the same dream. Success hasn’t changed these guys. After every song of every show I have been to the appreciation is genuine. A very humble leader (with much poise and passion) standing in front of almost shy bandmates that are loving the journey.  I always hoped to catch a show in their hometown to see the response of the crazy local punters. Upon arrival I stumbled my way through a dark paddock and a darker carpark to reach the venue. The crowd were buzzing in anticipation. It was a hot, intense ….. school assembly hall. The stage show had to be downsized, relying on the energy of the stage and the crowd.

The new tracks are often the stagnant point of many gigs. Fans not familiar or not convinced of the new work. Not this show – the new tunes created added energy in the moshpit (pretty much the entire hall).  The band showed their surprise and appreciation. No rants, no statements, no drug or alcohol banter. Every minute of the show had positive energy spilling into the crowd….. and bouncing back to the stage.

The new album took these dudes outside their comfort zone and challenged their boundaries.  Exploring new sounds and styles, they blended it into a ripping album. The first single from the album is all about giving life a good crack. There is lots of rubbish out there in our world, get in line with something good and make your dreams come true. Make the world a better place through your passion.

Be careful what you dream for. You may just dominate the world.

Oh, and the band Parkway Drive from Byron Bay, Australia. Check out Vice Grip on YouTube below for a positive message you can carry around with you. At the gig, Winston told the crowd he wrote the song as a daily reminder about focusing on the positives of life and not all the negativity. A great message for us all. #iChooseMovement #RealMovementproject #byronbay
